Who we are
Sitting at the intersection of innovation and policymakers.
The Center for Methane Emissions Solutions (CMES) launched in 2015 to bridge the gap between policymakers and methane mitigation providers, seeking common-sense solutions at the state and federal level. With over $4 billion in methane lost annually in the United States, we advocate for smart policies that benefit both the economy and public health.
Methane mitigation tech has efficient solutions to the very problem policymakers are desperate to solve. With over 500 locations across 46 states, CMES member companies work hand-and-hand with oil and gas companies to provide cost-effective solutions to reduce methane waste. In fact, CMES research shows 80% of oil and gas companies who implemented these common-sense standards either broke even or increased net profits.
Today, CMES conducts research, advocacy work, and public awareness on methane mitigation—serving as a collective voice for the industry as a whole. Understanding that methane is energy, not a waste product, we aim to boost energy security by preserving the domestic supply of natural gas.
